Joseph R. Williams, an associate attorney at Downtown-based Pollock Begg Komar Glasser LLC (Pollock Begg), will moderate a roundtable discussion at Duquesne University on Thursday, October 13, at 5 p.m. The presentation is entitled "Job Search Strategies That Worked for Us — A Roundtable Discussion with members of the Allegheny County Bar Association Young Lawyers Division." Angel L. Revelant, an associate attorney at Pollock Begg Komar Glasser, recently participated in the Allegheny County Bar Association's Backpack Program. This program provided new backpacks filled with school supplies, including notebooks, pens, pencils, highlighters, and other necessary items to 1,500 Allegheny County students. The Backpack Program, which is coordinated by the bar association's Public Service Committee, is in its fifth year of operation. This year, more than 30 corporate sponsors will help fund the project. Revelant assisted the committee in planning the event as well as coordinated the volunteers. Approximately 100 attorneys, staff and family members volunteered for staging, packing and distributing the backpacks. Joseph R. Williams, an associate attorney at Pollock Begg Komar Glasser, was elected to serve a two-year term on the Young Lawyers Division Council of the Allegheny County Bar Association (ACBA). Joe serves as a member of the Division’s Member Services Committee and Public Service Committee. The ACBA Young Lawyers Division serves nearly 1,800 young lawyers in Allegheny County.  For 2011-2012, Williams will also serve as the liaison between Duquesne Law School and the ACBA Young Lawyers Division. The five partners of Pollock Begg Komar Glasser LLC (Pollock Begg) have been named 2011 Pennsylvania Super Lawyers — an honor bestowed on just five percent of the state’s attorneys. Pollock Begg’s David Pollock, Todd Begg, Candice Komar, Daniel Glasser and Brian Vertz were recognized among Pennsylvania’s legal elite by Super Lawyers. In addition, Pollock, Begg and Komar were named among the Top 50 Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Super Lawyers. Komar earned further distinction as one of the Top 50 Women Pennsylvania Super Lawyers for 2011. Aimee Burton, an associate of the firm, was also named a Super Lawyer. Four of the firm’s associates were also named Rising Stars by the organization, a distinction for candidates under 40 attained by no more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state.  Stephanie L. Candice L. Komar, partner at Downtown-based Pollock Begg Komar Glasser LLC (Pollock Begg), appeared on PCNC’s NightTalk Legal Round Table on Tuesday, June 21. Komar appeared along side Stephen Stallings, a former federal prosecutor, and Judge Robert Dzvonick, a District Judge for the Shaler Area.
 
This is Komar’s fourth appearance on the WPXI’s Pittsburgh Cable News Channel (PCNC) programming, which airs for most viewers on channel 35 locally. Candice L. Komar, partner at Downtown-based Pollock Begg Komar Glasser LLC, was granted fellowship in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. AAML was founded in 1962 to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law to the end that the welfare of the family and society be preserved.  Members are invited into the Academy after fulfilling strict criteria and standards established by the AAML board of examiners. Todd Begg will presented at the Allegheny County Bar Association Bench-Bar Conference. He discussed the new custody law at the Family Law Section Sound Off.

Todd M. Begg is a course planner for the “Presentation of a Custody Evaluation in a Complex Custody Trial” CLE that is being offered by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute throughout the month of May. Todd was part of a joint team of very experienced family law practitioners and psychologists who have put together this program. He will also participate as a presenter. The program begins with sessions on the use and misuse of psychological tests and assessment instruments, when and how to use custody evaluations, how to challenge those evaluations and the presentation in court of an expert. The focus will then shift to the ethical and trial implications of the extent to which an attorney can or should prepare their client for a custody evaluation. The centerpiece of the day is a mock hearing utilizing a sample case. At the close of the hearing, participants will receive a view from the bench providing a critique of the hearing and describing appellate practice.

David Pollock was elected to a three-year term to the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, USA Chapter, Board of Managers. The IAML is a worldwide association of practicing lawyers who are recognized by their peers as the most experienced and expert family law specialists in their respective countries.
